Punch and Judy mechanical coin bank styled after late 19th-century American cast iron toy banks. Mechanical banks became popular between the 1870s and early 1900s, combining entertainment with savings by rewarding a deposited coin with a small moving action.
The Punch and Judy theme originates from traditional European puppet theatre, later becoming a familiar subject for American toy makers. Original banks produced by companies such as J. & E.
