Antique-style cast iron woodpecker door knocker featuring a dimensional bird perched against a textured tree-trunk backplate. The woodpecker projects outward from the mounting plate, creating a sculptural piece of architectural hardware with a strong rustic and folk-art appearance.
The woodpecker itself forms the moving knocker mechanism, an old-fashioned novelty design that combines functional door hardware with figural decoration. Similar woodpecker-form door knockers appear in both vintage examples and later reproductions, and the design continues to be made in cast iron today.
This example has an intentionally aged dark iron finish with greenish verdigris-style highlights that give it the look of weathered bronze or old painted iron. The detailed feathers, pointed beak, branch form, and rough tree-bark texture give it considerably more character than a plain traditional door knocker.
