Nice reproduction of an antique referenced in several antique reference books. See "Fur Trade
Optics" in Museum of the Fur Trade Quarterly, Volume 47 Number 3, Summer
2011, illustration on page 3.  you will see this is just like the one shown in the upper right corner of the page.


These were called a "burning glass" because they were traded in large numbers to the
Indians for starting fires.  White man's magic!


Also as shown in George Neumanns "Collectors Illustrated Encyclopedia of The American Revolution" magnifying glasses like this were used in the 18th and 19th century due to the poor lighting and eyesight.

This piece is made just like the early versions with glass and brass. Good quality for any early home decor for use or display.
